There is a choice of 7,350 Extensions (Components, Modules & Plugins) that you can use to extend Joomla with. This, together with a wide range of Joomla Templates, allows you to build web sites with any look or functionality.
Another strong point of Joomla is the multi-language support, Access Level Control, responsive design (mobile-friendly) and a large support community (via forum, documentation, etc.)
Here is South Africa, Joomla has also been popular from the start, with many successful JoomlaDay events since 2007.
2007 was also the year that I built my first Joomla website for Touchvision Digital Media Solutions, and since then it's been my CMS of choice. I've enjoyed helping clients find the right Joomla components to full-fill their needs. New Web Consulting now also supports another popular open source CMS, namely WordPress (where it fits a client's needs).
I've been fortunate enough to serve in the Joomla leadership, as a Director (Secretary and VP) of the board of Open Source Matters, and volunteering in various Joomla teams. Joomla would not be possible without volunteers from all over the world, working together.
